Charlie Kilshaw Memorial 5 Mile Run

This race is in the memory of Charlie Kilshaw. Charlie typified the spirit of Garscube Harriers. He was a lovely man; warm and friendly to members – new and old, went out his way to help others, and represented the club in many races from 2000 till 2012. Charlie was never the fastest runner, but his enthusiasm, determination and effort to run his best endeared him to the hearts of Garscube runners at all races. This event is usually held at the reservoirs at Milngavie Waterworks and is open to Garscube members and friends and family.
Charlie Kilshaw Memorial Race Results 2025
We saw a record turnout for the Charlie Kilshaw Memorial 5 mile race at the Milngavie Reservoirs on a warm and humid July evening. It was great to be back at the reservoirs after a few years away.
It was great to see such a fantastic turnout, with athletes from over 25 different clubs taking part, many of whom had travelled far, including those from deepest darkest Falkirk, Ayrshire and Lanarkshire as well as some who had even come all the way from Maryhill and the West End of Glasgow. Of course, it was lovely to be joined by some of Charlie’s family, with Chris, Joyce and Graham taking part.
Our main prize winners are as follows:

Between race entry fees, donations and bake sale proceeds on the night we estimate that we have raised in the region of £2,000 which will be split between our two charity partners, Athletics Trust Scotland and the Glasgow NW Foodbank.
A huge thanks to all of our friendly officials, marshals, volunteers, photographers and organisers, especially to the core team of Paul Collins, Amy Cromarty, Isobel Martin and Alison Rutherford and her special little helpers.
Thanks also to our very many bakers and the helpers at our stall. We took in an amazing £392.51 just from the bake sale. Special thanks to Paul Collins Roofing for supplying tonight’s prizes and to James Reid and the Crow Road Lidl who kindly donated the finish line bananas. And finally a huge thanks too to Scottish Water for granting our race permissions and hosting us as well as the Nuffield Milngavie for allowing us to use their car park and facilities.
